We merely break the middle matzah and hide one-half of it for the children to find and collect a reward at the end of the Seder.
\n\n
Normally when we break bread we say a prayer. Yet, when we break the middle matzahâŚ.no prayer. How can that be? We Jews have prayers for everything we do. So what does the breaking of the matzah into two pieces symbolize?
\n\n
On Passover, we celebrate freedom. But, to reach freedom, the Jewish slaves had to escape from Egypt and Pharoahâs army. Miraculously, the Red Sea split and the Jews were able to cross without harm. Yet Pharoahâs army was swallowed alive. Is splitting the matzah a symbol of the splitting of the Red Sea?
\n\n
Or, is this silent and reflective act of the breaking of the matzah a symbol for our incompleteness? We have prayers to be finished and promises to be redeemed. We hide part of the broken matzah, hoping it will be found at the end of the Seder, and pray that we will ultimately know ourselves. We continue to discover what makes us whole. As we hide the larger broken part of the matzah we recognize that more is hidden to us than revealed. With many generations before us and with each other here, our search for our future presses on. And, the revelation of our true selves is yet to come.
\n",

In this case the 3 letters are Kuf (K) Dalet (D) and Shin (SH), which we also find in the following words:\n\n\t
\n\t\t
Kiddush         (sanctification of Shabbat or a holiday by blessing and drinking wine)
\n\t\t
Kodesh (or Kadosh)Â Â Â Holy
\n\t\t
Kaddish         Sanctification of God in remembering those who have died
\n\t
\n\t
\n\t
Reasoning:Â Â Â Â Â Â By sanctifying this holiday at the outset we are delineating the parameters which separate the mundane from the sacred, and also making sacred the mundane. Observant Jews have always made sacred the mundane, for example by blessing before a meal, or by thanking God upon waking up. Interestingly enough, when looking for sources for this sanctification, the only reason given in the Torah is âyou shall be holy because I (i.e. God) am holyâ
\n\t
Relation to Passover:Â Â Â The reason for sanctifying this specific holiday, as weâll do very soon, is that we are remembering our slavery and freedom, followed by the giving of the Torah. Can you think of a better reason to sanctify?
\n\t
Our hosts:Â Â Â Â Â Â The Weiner family is a living example of sanctification, as their practice to thank God when the family gets together, and to bless as a group when coming or going fills me with pride. I can think of no better way to express our love for God and Judaism
\n
\n",

"body": "
From the Zohar II 183(b):
\n\n
Two types of bread were eaten by Israel: when they left Egypt on Pesach they ate matzah, the bread of affliction and in the wilderness they ate bread from heaven, as it is written: âBehold, I will rain for you bread from heavenâ. Therefore, the offering of this day is bread and all the other offerings are offered in addition to the bread. The bread is the main part, for this is the bread the Manna through which Israel became wise with the supernal Wisdom of the Torah, and entered its ways for the Manna's unique qualities prepared and opened their hearts up to the Torah.
\n\n
We should now observe that during Pesach, Israel came away from chametz, as it is written: âAnd no chametz shall be seen.â What is the reason that eating chametz on Pesach was forbidden? It is because of the honor of the bread that is called 'matzah'.
\n\n
Similar to a story of a king who had an only son who became ill. One day he wished to eat. They said: Let the king's son eat healing food, but before he eats it, no other food or nourishment should be in the house. They did so. After he had eaten the healing food, they said: From now on he may eat whatever he desires and it will do him no harm.
\n\n
Similarly, when Israel left Egypt, they did not know the essence and secret of Faith. G-d let Israel taste healing, and until they take this healing, no other food should be visible to them. As soon as they had eaten matzah, which is a curative to aid in coming into and knowing the secret of faith, G-d said: 'From now on, chametz is suitable for them and they may eat it, because it can no longer harm them'.
\n",
