 חָכָם מַה הוּא אוֹמֵר? מָה הָעֵדֹת וְהַחֻקִּים וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִים, אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֶתְכֶם? וְאַף אַתָּה אֱמָר־לוֹ כְּהִלְכוֹת הַפֶּסַח: אֵין מַפְטִירִין אַחַר הַפֶּסַח אֲפִיקוֹמָן:

What does the wise one say? "What are these testimonies, laws and statutes that Adonai, our God, commanded you?" You should teach him the laws of the Passover: We do not finish eating with the Afikomen at the Passover seder.

Traditonally this paragraph is translated as, "Teach him that you shall not eat anything after the afikomen," but that's wrong.   What it really means is, "we don't finish with the afikomen after the Pesach." Except, we do finish with the afikomen. (But that's not right either.) See, "afikomen" doesn't really mean "dessert" as in "cake" or "ice cream." It's actually what they called the after-dinner "festivities" from the symposium. (Yes, those kinds of "festivities.") So, even though we don't end with the afikomen, we actually do. A flat, dry, tasteless afikomen. (Thanks, Rabbis.)
